At Fremont Community Church, it is our hearts desire and purpose to love God with a surrendered heart and to love others by leading them to Jesus. Founded by Pastor Sherman Williams and his wife, Marti, in 1973, FCC is an interdenominational Christian church located in the one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse cities in the Bay Area. At FCC, we aspire to be a church that reflects the community it serves. We have different ministries and Life Groups that offer something for everyone. Whether you’re a committed Christian looking to go deeper in your faith or maybe you’re just beginning to ask questions about God, you can find a home here at FCC.
In 1973, Redwood Chapel commissioned Sherman Williams and a small group of dedicated Christians to start a new branch church. The first worship service was held on October 21, 1973, at Mission San Jose High School.
In February of 1978, the Elders led the growing congregation in a miraculous acquisition of 9.2 acres that had been previously the international headquarters of Kimber Farms. After a year of Saturday workdays on the buildings and grounds by dedicated church members, the first worship service was held at the new (and present) location, 39700 Mission Boulevard, in February, 1979.
In 1980, the church developed a new outreach into the community when Christian Community Preschool opened with 7 children in January, followed by the opening of the Elementary School that Fall. By September, 1981, approximately 270 students were enrolled in the school now known as Kimber Hills Academy.
Fremont Community Church is known for not only a tremendous ministry within the congregation and its school, but also for the extremely high value placed on working with the other evangelical congregations in the Fremont TriCities to reach the community for Christ. In fact, Pastor Sherman founded the South Bay Association of Evangelicals in 1975 which continues today under the name of “CityServe – – Faith Communities United in Jesus” – – Fremont, Newark, and Union City, a coalition of over 65 congregations.
For over 40 years, the FCC church family has continued to flourish and grow.
And in May of 2015, Dave Chae, along with his wife Helen, joined Fremont Community Church as Lead Minister. As a kingdom minded church planter Dave has infused FCC with fresh vision. His desire is to reach those who are far from Jesus and to lead our congregation to be a part of the spiritual journeys of people from all walks of life. His vision is that FCC would be a community of Jesus-followers who make disciples who make disciples. To that end, Dave is leading FCC to a new season of ministry called, “Mission Possible,” a campaign with the primary focus of bringing transformation through Spirit-filled discipleship. God’s faithfulness is seen over and over as He meets the needs of the church family. As we grow spiritually, we press on to our goal of reaching our community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, building up the church members in faith, and sending them out to reach the world for Christ.
